Melbourne, October 29 (ANI): Terry Gilliam who was directing Heath Ledger in ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’ when he died has recalled the actor’s last days on the movie set.

The Brit filmmaker, who earned a standing ovation for the film at the Cannes film festival, revisited memories while shooting with the 28-year-old Australian star before his tragic passing from an accidental prescription drug overdose last year.

‘How somebody with that much vitality and strength and just sheer life force suddenly just isn’t there is just a mystery,’ News.com.au quoted Gilliam as saying.

Ledger’s last scenes were shot in London just days before his death, when he was suffering from chronic insomnia and stepped on the set drained.

He was said to be struggling to come to terms with his split from Michelle Williams and a custody battle over their daughter, Matilda.

Former Monty Python member Gilliam saw Ledger pick up energy, rather than losing any, as the day went by, including performing his own stunts.

Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law were involved in the project at the last minute after Ledger’s shock death.

Referring to Depp, the 68-year-old director said: ‘He just arrived, he was word perfect, he just jumped in. He’s just brilliant.

‘We were under a lot of pressure with Colin and Jude as well, because they all had schedules, and we were just trying to juggle everything.

‘There was just this love for Heath, it’s as simple as that – that’s the thing that kept everybody going.’ (ANI)

London, Oct 29 (ANI): Former Spice Girls member Victoria Beckham has decided to launch her own range of shoes and handbags.

Posh, 35, has so far been modelling for other designers, she now wants to start something of her own, and footie ace hubby David has offered to build her a huge design workshop in Beckingham Palace, Herts, when they return to the UK.

“Victoria is tired of promoting other brands. If she wears Christian Louboutin or Hermes people go and buy it,” the Sun quoted a friend as saying.

“She thought, ‘Why can’t I do this with my own line?’

“Her VB collection has gone down a storm across the celebrity world. If this is repeated with her line of shoes, the range would be worth an absolute fortune.

“It is feasible that after David retires she could become the main breadwinner in the Beckham house,” the friend added.

London, Oct 29 (ANI): Ace footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has for the first time spoken of his pain of failed relationships.

The 24-year-old star insists he knows what it is like to be dumped.

‘I’ve received many more knocks to my legs than my heart,” the Sun quoted him as saying.

‘But my heart has been hurt. Women have ended relationships with me many times. Luckily I’m a winner and I’ve always got over it,’ he added.

However, the Portuguese footballer credited ex-girlfriend Gemma Atkinson with helping him improve his English during his term with Manchester United.

Mercy’s adopted brother David Banda, four, is no better when it comes to speaking Chichewa, says Lucy Chipeta of the Mchinji orphanage, where he lived until 2007.

‘David had for-gotten us. He remembers a few words,’ the Sun quoted Lucy, as saying after Madonna visited the orphanage with Mercy and David.

‘Mercy is a real white girl. She couldn’t speak any,’ she said.

She added: ‘I am happy to see David look so happy.

Washington, Oct 28 (ANI): Late King of Pop Michael Jackson was ‘never satisfied’ with his music, singer-and-producer Akon has revealed.

Akon said: ‘He was never satisfied. Like, we might have passed up ideas that I know for a fact were smashes. He’d be like, ‘Nah, nah – we got to come up with something better.’

“We can never do better because his expectation was so high. It was almost to a point where we would have to get a record and I would believe in it and just put it out, because otherwise it would never come out because he always believed we could do better.’

Akon added that Michael was determined and focussed on his work, reports Contactmusic.

He said: ‘A lot of our memories in the studio is a lot about work, because he was so focused on trying to get the right material out that we didn’t really play around. Like, we talked, but we rarely joked, because at that moment, regardless of what we were doing it’s like, ‘Lets get serious and really do what we came here to do.’ ‘

The 32-year-old said he and Michael worked well together because they had similar song-writing styles.

He explained to MTV News: ‘It was all about the melody, ’cause we both were melody guys. Everything started with the melody. We both would hum the melody and try to create the biz around it.’ (ANI)

London, Oct 28 (ANI): Fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent has been named the top earning dead celebrity by Forbes magazine.

In its ninth annual list Forbes.com said the Frenchman, considered one of the greatest designers of the 20th century and who died in 2008, made 350 million dollars.

Following him were composers Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein with 235 million dollars, and Michael Jackson at 90 million dollars, reports The Times.

Elvis Presley was fourth with 55 million dollars.

However, according to Matthew Miller, the editor of the list, Jackson is likely to be a bigger earner in years to come.

“He will make tens of millions because he has lucrative publishing rights and rights to all his memorabilia,” he said. (ANI)

Los Angeles, Oct 28 (DPA) Four months after Michael Jackson’s death from a drug overdose a documentary chronicling his last days was set to hit movie screens around the world Tuesday.

The official premiere was set for Tuesday afternoon at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, where Jackson’s public memorial was held. There will also be 18 other premieres taking place simultaneously in Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Korea, Norway, Peru, Poland, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Uruguay, Britain and New York City.

“This Is It” was cobbled together from about 100 hours of footage shot during the late King of Pop’s rehearsals for his 50-date comeback engagement in London’s 02 Arena. The movie was put together by longtime Jackson collaborator, Kenny Ortega, who was also directing the stage show. Sony Pictures bought the movie rights from concert promoter AEG for a reported $60 million, and advance ticket sales for the limited two-week run are on track to make the film the most successful concert movie ever.

Some diehard fans have come out against the movie, setting up a website at This-Is-Not-It.com that argues that the concert promoters facilitated Jackson’s drug use in a bid to get him to perform, even though it was clear he was unhealthy.

However, Dame Elizabeth Taylor, one of Jackson’s closest friends, has hailed the film as “the single most brilliant piece of filmmaking I have ever seen” after attending a secret preview screening last week. In a series of messages on Twitter the actress added: “I truly believe this film should be nominated in every category conceivable.”

Hailing the late entertainer as “a modern day prophet” she wrote that “I wept from pure joy at his God given gift. There will never, ever be the likes of him again”.

Some Jackson family members are not planning to see the film, saying it will be too painful. Mother Katherine Jackson told the television programme Access Hollywood, “I don’t think I can bear to look at it right now. But eventually in time I will watch it”.

His sister La Toya even said she doubted that Jackson would have wanted fans to see him in rehearsal. “Michael always wants to give his best,” she told the show. “This is a rehearsal. He wasn’t giving his all. He loves to give his all always. That’s just the way he is. He wants people to see him at the top of the ladder and not half-stepping because he doesn’t want to do a full-out rehearsal.”

London, Oct 27 (IANS) Pop diva Madonna marked the launch of her $13.5 million girls’ academy in Malawi by planting a sapling and vowing to provide the locals with the same education opportunities that she got.

Madonna flew down to the homeland of her two adopted children — David Banda and Mercy James — to lay the first brick of the school, which will be funded by her charity Raising Malawi, reported contactmusic.com.

Explaining her reasons for wanting to finance the project, she said: “Growing up in a privileged life, I took education for granted, but coming to Malawi has taught me a lot of things and I have learned to appreciate what life gives.”

The facility will provide education for 200 local girls who are too poor to afford schooling and will cost $13.5 million to build.

According to the book being written by Andrew Morton, the star had intimate relations with her mother Marcheline’s live-in lover.
