My dad is like a stubborn teen: Rihanna

Monday, November 30th, 2009

London, Nov 30 (IANS) Singer Rihanna who cut ties with her father Ronald Fenty when he showed up drunk at one of her concerts last year has said she doesn’t want to reconcile with him, as he is as stubborn as a teenager.

“He has too much pride (to get in contact). It’s almost like we play opposite roles – I’m the adult and he’s the stubborn teenage boy,” she said, reports contactmusic.com.

She however insisted her mother, Monica, gives her the strength to deal with the absence of her father from her life.

“Luckily my mom raised me with enough qualities to take on something like that. She is the least judgemental person,” she said.

“My whole life… she has always been there guiding me but she was never too hands-on. She was just there by my side making sure I didn’t make the wrong decision,” she added.

‘Pot-puffing’ Pitt ‘paranoid’ Jolie heading for splitsville, claims book

Monday, November 30th, 2009

New York, Nov 30 (ANI): Hollywood’s hottest couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are on the road to break-up, according to a new biography.

In his new book, ‘Brangelina: The Untold Story of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’, author Ian Halperin has revealed that the couple, who fell in love on the sets of Mr and Mrs Smith, now argues like cats and dogs on everything from politics to clothes the kids wear and Brad’s ‘atrocious habit,’ which includes pot smoking and alcohol.’

‘I talked to several people in Brad’s family who wished they’d break up today. They’re scared for Brad’s safety and his well-being,’ the New York Post quoted Halperin as saying.

A limo driver who drove Brangelina frequently witnessed them ‘going at it in the back seat’ twice and saw a ‘U-turn’ in their relationship in 2007.

‘I was more worried about his safety than hers,’ said the driver.

‘She really flew off the handle, threatening him and lashing out at him. I can’t imagine how anyone would want to be with her every day, no matter how sexy she is. She has a temper like a cobra,’ he added.

The tome reveals that Pitt may have cheated on Jolie.

The most persistent story that crops up time and again involves Pitt and a beautiful Sudanese model, Amma, whom he met at a benefit for Darfur at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.

Jolie has allegedly accused Pitt of cheating on her.

Pitt’s pot use is also building tension in the couple’s relationship.

A woman who works for an industry publication says Pitt’s drug use will give Jolie an easy way to explain their split, when it inevitably happens: ‘They’ll be split within 18 months, probably sooner,’ she said.

‘And here’s how it’s going to play out. They’re going to split amicably, work out some kind of arrangement with the kids, and everything will be very civilized. Then you’re going to see unidentified friends leak stories how Angelina couldn’t put up with Brad’s partying and drinking and his pot smoking.

‘She’s worried about the kids, and she’s afraid it’s not the right environment for them. Maybe he’ll even take part of the blame and go along with that,’ the woman added. (ANI)

Aretha Franklin tops ‘Hottest 100 Female Singers’ poll

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Washington, Nov 30 (ANI): Legendary singer Aretha Franklin has topped a list of the ‘Hottest 100 Female Singers’ for her signature song ‘Respect’.

Franklin ruled the Hummingbird100, which was created after the Triple J Hottest 100 of all time this year contained no songs by female artists.

Originally written and released in 1965 by Stax, featuring Otis Redding, Respect was recorded by Aretha Franklin two years later, with her sisters on backing vocals.

Launched in October, the Hummingbird100 poll recorded 62,000 votes in seven weeks, covering 5500 songs.

Pink came in second with ‘So What’, followed by Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I Will Survive’.

At number four was Abba’s ‘Dancing Queen’, while Madonna rounded up at the fifth position with ‘Like a Prayer’.

Franklin also grabbed the 72nd spot with (You make me feel like) ‘A Natural Woman’.

Matthew Coyte, editor-in-chief of Rolling Stone, was surprised with the number of the recent songs that made it to the list.

“It’s interesting there’s such a high percentage of songs from the past five years in the list,’ the Herald Sun quoted him as saying.

‘It shows that when it comes to female musicians, the voters are more willing to let new acts into their top 10 rather than looking to the classics,” he said.

“Aretha Franklin taking out number one isn’t a surprise to me, as she also topped our Rolling Stone Greatest Singers Of All Time list as well.

‘Respect remains one of the most enduring ‘girl power’ songs,” he added.

The Top 10 singers in the Hummingbird100 list are:

1. Aretha Franklin – Respect
2. Pink – So What
3. Gloria Gaynor – I Will Survive
4. Abba – Dancing Queen
5. Madonna – Like a Prayer
6. Lady Gaga – PokerFace
7. Bangles – Eternal Flame
8. Fergie – Big Girls Dont Cry
9. Blondie – Heart of Glass
10. Madonna – Like a Virgin (ANI)

Perfume made from Michael Jackson’s hair DNA launched

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

London, Nov 29 (IANS) An American perfume manufacturing company has launched late pop legend Michael Jackson’s perfume – made using DNA samples from his hair.

The company called My DNA Fragrance claim to engineer scents from human genetic codes and they have recently teamed up with hair collector John Reznikoff, who has the world’s largest collection of historical hair – including some of Jackson’s for a scent, reports thesun.co.uk.

“DNA can be extracted from hair shafts with or without the follicle intact. My DNA Fragrance has analysed Reznikoff’s private collection of celebrity hair and is now engineering exclusive fragrances of each celebrity,” read a statement on the website of the company.

They are also selling perfumes made from hair of celebrities like Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Napoleon Bonaparte and King Edward IV of England.

“We use the genetic code to formulate the fragrance. If you are putting on MJ’s perfume it’s a unique fragrance to him. The biggest seller is Elvis, but MJ is selling very well too. It’s a powerful fragrance and there is no alcohol in it,” said company chairman Carlton Enoch.

“We use aloe vera so it doesn’t evaporate into the air. It lasts the entire day and it’s good for the skin. We had the actor Samuel L. Jackson call up to get his own perfume made – it’s so unique and special that he wanted it,” he added.

Kolkata teenager raises collection of Michael Jackson’s stamps

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Kolkata, Nov.28 (ANI): A 12-year-old boy in Kolkata has raised a collection of stamps of Michael Jackson, the King of Pop.

Mohammad Faizullah, an avid fan of legendary Michael Jackson, the teenaged boy takes pride in his special collection.

While fans of Michael Jackson around the world, normally copy his singing and dancing styles or dress like him as a mode of tribute, Faizullah has chosen a distinct way by collecting stamps brought out on Jackson.

According to Faizullah, he receives information about the new stamps via Internet and manages to gain access the stamps from friends and other collectors through exchange.

‘I have been collecting stamps of Michael Jackson from two to three years. I get the information from the Internet; I go to Google and search for Michael Jackson. I also exchange stamps with my friends; I ask them if there are any new stamps of Michael and then hunt for these new stamps,’ said Mohammad Faizullah, a fan and collector of stamps on Michael Jackson.

Faizullah says that liked Michael Jackson a lot like any other fan in the world but his way of loving and showing his respect is different.

Faizullah collects every stamp of the Jackson and the history associated with it properly in an album.

According to Tyron Smith, a friend of Faizullah, although there are many fans and fan clubs of Jackson, Faizullah is special, as he has adapted a unique way of remembering the King of the Pop.

‘In our school, we have a group named ‘Michael Jackson Group’. We have two to three friends, including Faizullah, who are members of this group. Faizullah does different things than what we do. We try to copy Michael Jackson and sing his songs, but he has taken a different path altogether. He collects stamps. He likes Michael Jackson more than us. He calls his collection as ‘In Memory of Michael Jackson’,’ said Tyron Smith, Faizullah’s friend.

Though Faizullah started with only Jackson’s stamps, today he has also included the stamps on other legendary singer Elvis Presley and the Hollywood’s Marilyn Monroe.

Known as the ‘King of Pop’ for hits that included ‘Thriller’ and ‘Billie Jean’, Jackson’s dramatic, one-gloved stage presence and innovative dance moves motivated millions of his fans around the world.

‘I was angry… then I got vulnerable and started to miss the person,’ the News of the World quoted her as saying about the infamous Brown attack.

She said: ‘It was a rollercoaster. The studio became a place of peace and therapy. But now I’m enjoying being single. It’s a whole new world to me.

‘Dating would be fun to incorporate. It’s a lot of commitment so I don’t want a serious relationship.

‘I’m linked to so many men it’s ridiculous. I am single. And I would put love on the side for what I do because it means so much to me.’

Rihanna added: ‘I don’t miss sex because I still have fun by myself. You get what I mean?’

Talking about how Brown’s assault affected her, she said: ‘Initially I didn’t want to let my guard down and let people in. I didn’t even want to talk about love. Minder caught trying to sell MJ’s mask for $150k

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

London, Nov 29 (ANI): The surgical face mask Michael Jackson wore the night before he died is being sold by one of the singer’s most trusted minders.

Eric Muhammad has been caught cashing in on his boss’ death by secretly demanding 150,000 dollars for the piece of memorabilia.

However, Muhammad’s betrayal has been exposed after he tried to clinch a deal with undercover News of the World reporter.

The bodyguard took the silky black mask from the Thriller star’s limo after he drove children Prince, Blanket and Paris to the Los Angeles hospital where doctors frantically tried to save their dying father.

In a meeting with the undercover News of the World reporter, posing as a rich businessman, the guard pulled the mask from a plastic zip lock bag and said: ‘This is the only way I could, you know, preserve it. This was his and you are more than welcome to DNA it.

‘It still has his make-up on it. It still smells like him.”

‘It’s very sentimental to me and it’s personal. The number that I had initially in my mind was to offer it up for 200 grand,’ he added. (ANI)

Michael Jackson ‘wanted to study fine art at University’

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

London, Nov 29 (ANI): Late King of Pop Michael Jackson was reportedly planning to head back to the classroom to become a qualified art historian after his daughter Paris begged him to follow his dream of studying.

The singer, who died in June, aged 50, wanted to do a university course in fine art but it was his 11-year-old daughter who gave her famous dad the push he needed to study.

Last May, Michael got his assistants to contact both Christie’s Education and Sotheby’s Institute of Art, both in New York, with a view to starting a year-long course in September next year.

“It was all because of Paris that Michael decided to follow his dream,” the Daily Star quoted a source as saying.

“She gave him the confidence to finally contact the colleges that are attached to the famous auction houses,” the source added.

The course Jackson had pencilled in was called “Certificate in Modern Art, Connoisseurship and the History of the Art Market”.

“Michael regretted the fact that he never got the chance to go to university because his music career started so early,” the source said.

“But he made up for it by reading widely. He absolutely devoured books on art and crafts and was an avid collector. He had an insatiable thirst for knowledge.

“People don’t realise but Michael was surrounded by a whole gang of academic friends. Many of his closest associates had nothing to do with showbiz.

“He was also inspired by a motivation to prove his father wrong, as Joe Jackson constantly accused Michael of being stupid. Most of all, Michael wanted to be an inspiration to his own kids,” the source added. (ANI)

London, November 29 (ANI): The money needed to pay off Michael Jackson’s huge debts has been raised within five months after his death.

The King of Pop’s estate has apparently grossed almost half-a-billion dollars through the music CD royalties and box-office collection of the film ‘This Is It.’

Also, there has been an additional income from the sale of Jackson souvenirs and memorabilia, reports the Daily Star.

The cases include a 300-million-dollar action filed by New Jersey based company AllGood Entertainment. The company claims that the singer had backed out of a TV reunion concert with his brothers in Texas.

Administrators said solutions may be reached “by early in the New Year”. (ANI)

Yahoo improves its search engine

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Munich, Nov 29 (DPA) Searches on the Yahoo engine should soon deliver more results, thanks in part to new filter functions, reports the company.

Those new filters could allow a searcher, for example, to limit results to those found on major websites like Amazon or Wikipedia. The company also reports that its filter allows searches by related terms.

The engine’s search methods have also been upgraded, reports Yahoo. It now analyses the search habit of users over a certain period of time to come up with logical connections between past and present searches.

“For example, if the word ‘Paris’ is input followed by ‘flights’ or ‘affordable hotels’, then Yahoo Search understands that a person is looking for travel information and not for gossip about Paris Hilton.
