London, Aug 20 (IANS) Pop diva Madonna is in talks for a $1 billion deal by signing up for a five-year residency in Las Vegas, which can make her the third richest female entertainer in the world.

The “Frozen” singer is said to be in discussions with promoters to establish a run of shows in the US gambling capital, and if she signs the deal, she will be following in the footsteps of other performers such as Elton John, Cher and Celine Dion, who have all made huge sums through Vegas contracts, reports contactmusic.com.

If the rumours of the contract being worth $1 billion are true, it would push the 52-year-old up the list of highest earning women in the world. Currently, with an estimated fortune of 208 million pounds, she is in fourth place behind talk show host Oprah Winfrey, host and publisher Martha Stewart and Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.

London, Aug 20 (IANS) Former “Friends” star Jennifer Aniston is under fire from disability groups after describing herself live on US television as a retard.

The actress was promoting her new movie “The Switch” on “Live with Regis and Kelly” when she said: “Yes, I play dress up! I do it for a living, like a retard!”, reports contactmusic.com.

The statement angered disability groups including The Arc, an organisation set up to provide support to those with intellectual disabilities.

“She is using language that is offensive to a large segment of the population in this country. Every time folks hear that word, it kind of reminds them of all the discrimination and oppression they’ve experienced in their lives,” said Peter Berns, chief operating officer, The Arc.

London, Aug 20 (IANS) A clothing company has filed a lawsuit against pop star Madonna claiming the singer has used their ‘Material Girl’ trademark for her clothing range with daughter Lourdes.

Madonna who worked on a range of clothes entitled Material Girl with her 13-year-old daughter is being sued by LA Triumph for using the same name as their clothing collection, reports contactmusic.com

“Our client and its predecessor have been continually selling similar clothes in similar retail outlets at similar price points under the Material Girl brand since at least 1997 and Madonna and her new-found company do not have the right to trade in the same space under this brand,” lawyer Peter told X17online:

Chris Arledge, an intellectual property lawyer, said: “As a result of their acts, our client faces a risk of being subsumed by Madonna’s profile, obvious worldwide notoriety and the massive spending campaign by Madonna, her company and retailers on her behalf.”

Last month, Lourdes’ father Carlos Leon admitted the teenager was the “creative force” of the clothing range, which is sold in US department store Macy’s.

“She’s 100 percent the creative force of Material Girl. She knew exactly what she wanted. She’s a trendsetter that draws from all different things to put together a look. She’s into different cultures and brings that into her style,” he said.

Washington, Aug 20 (ANI): A clothing company has filed a lawsuit against Queen of Pop Madonna, claiming the singer has used their ‘Material Girl’ trademark.

L.A. Triumph, Inc. has claimed that it’s been marketing ‘Material Girl’ clothing since 1997. It has sold millions of bucks worth of threads under its trademark, reports TMZ.com.

However, Madonna has used the name ‘Material Girl’ for her junior clothing line Material Girl Brand, which launched this year.

L.A. Triumph is seeking a declaration from a federal judge that Madonna’s use of ‘Material Girl’ creates ‘deception’ about the brand in the marketplace.

In addition to the declaration, L.A. Triumph also wants the judge to order Madonna and her company to turn over all of the profits they’ve made from their clothing line. (ANI)

New York, Aug 20 (ANI): Former ‘Friends’ star Jennifer Aniston has revealed that she somehow knew her former facial expert would end up getting caught skimming credit card info from A-list clients.

According to ABC’s “Good Morning America”, Aniston, 41, also revealed she had a tiff Chez Gabriela Studio owner Maria Gabriella Perez five years ago.

“We had a situation that was not cool, so I sort of just stopped going to her,” the New York Daily News quoted the actress as saying.

“I knew that something like this would eventually happen because you can’t get away with that,” she added.

She did not explain what happened but said “it wasn’t to the extent that these other girls have had”. (ANI)

The chance of encountering an infected website or file is higher when searching for actors and models than for politicians. This reflects the calculation by virus writers that people are more likely to search for videos and pictures of entertainment celebrities on the Internet than their favorite Harry Reid YouTube appearance.

“This year, the search results for celebrities are safer than they’ve been in previous years, but there are still dangers when searching online,” Dave Marcus, security researcher for McAfee Labs said.

He also said that while consumers are getting smarter about searching online, “cybercriminals are getting sneakier in their techniques. Now they’re hiding malicious content in ‘tiny’ places like shortened URLs that can spread virally in social networking sites and Twitter, instead of on websites and downloads.”

Washington, Aug 19 (ANI): Celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Cher, Liv Tyler, Melanie Griffith, Anne Hathaway and Scott Speedman have been named as victims of a serious credit card scheme.

The U.S. Secret Service have caught a woman who is accused of running the operation involving names of major Hollywood mega-stars, TMZ.com reported.

According to an affidavit filed in United States District Court, a witness claims the celebs were all violated or at least their credit cards were by a woman who ran a salon in Beverly Hills called the Chez Gabriela Studio.

Court documents accuse Maria Gabriella Perez of ripping off the credit card information from her ultra-wealthy clients and “fraudulently [charging] approximately 280,000 dollars worth of charges in a one year period”.

The documents showed that Perez swindled 214,000 dollars from Liv Tyler alone.

She was arrested on federal fraud charges, and is due to appear in court in L.A. (ANI)
